I was born and raised in Arnprior, Ontario, a small town an hour west of Ottawa. I’ve been fortunate to have a great relationship with my grandparents, two of which immigrated from the Ukraine and England respectively, and two fourth-generation farmers in the Ottawa Valley. My grandparents have been exceptional role models for me since I was a child. When I reflect on what they have taught me the initial things that come to mind are the importance of hard work and perseverance, and the value of a loving family.

Two of my grandparents are still with us, and I cherish the memories I continue to make with them. Although we are separated by distance, technology has fostered opportunities for me to stay in closer contact with them. Simple calls to talk about the weather, fishing, or hockey are moments I truly value. I know barriers to technology prevent some grandchildren and loved ones from having these brief yet significant moments with their grandparents, so I’m hoping our initiative can help break down these barriers.

My passion for cycling has continued to grow over the past four years, and I have begun to cycle more intensely as of late. Any day on the saddle is a good day, and with such an important cause providing motivation, I’m excited for the road ahead.
